| Lives for gear | Standard pin-out for DC on a 4 pin XLR?
Hi Geekslutz, Is there a standard for DC power running on the 4 pin XLRs you see on so much broadcast gear? I checked the PAG site but couldn't find it. Any help gratefully appreciated.

Hi Probably not although pin 1 is most likely ground or 0 Volts. The pin usually connects first as the pin / socket is extended. AMEK used: 1= ground 2 = Pos 17 Volts 3=Neg 17 volts 4= 48 volts Good luck Matt S |

Thanks for the info Matt, is pin 1 extended on a standard Neutrik 4 pin XLR?? Or is it the socket contact that is further forward that the rest? Thanks, |

Hi I think it is mainly the sockets with extended pins but there may be the odd ones somewhere. In any case since it is pretty standard to have pin 1 as ground on an 'XLR' it is good to stick to it, although there may be discrepancies between Chassis and 0 Volts. A balanced Dynamic mic for example the pin 1 is a 'chassis safety connection' as it is not actually contributing to the signal. It gets horribly messy from there on! Matt S |
