Soundcraft 200b PSU upgrade - which

I have two soundcraft 200b mixers that need power supply upgrades.

have owned my 200b for about a year and by chance, i have recently purchased another 200b that came to me very cheaply and the sonic difference is night and day! I ran a few tests, swapping modules and psu's and found that the psu is the culprit.

Unfortunately though the new psu brings sonic clarity, it also has alot of hum, and is making the mixer get stuck in pfl mode, both symptoms i have been able boil down to psu.

Now both psu's are not the originals and i have read how crap the cps supplies are on here. I see that jim williams recommends Power One HDD-15-5AG. Well i am in UK and the closest i can find is the HD156A:

HD15-6-A by POWER ONE - Buy or Repair at PLCCenter - PLCCenter.co.uk

Being a novice, i wanted to check with people on here whether this would suit and whether i can use the supply as it arrives, or what i will need to need to do/add to get it working with my mixer.

Or can anyone suggest a more suitable psu to use in uk? Sound is my priority here.

thanks alot guys,

Dear Polymono,

That power supply you linked is NOT correct because it supplies only +15 VDC versus the +/- 15 VDC (bipolar) voltages required by the desk.

I was curious (bored? LOL) and poked around for European sources for Power-One linear supplies, and then the very similar supplies made by International Power.

It appears that perhaps linear supplies have been "banned" in Europe because they are "not Green Enough to suit the suits in Belgium???" <g>

Shrug...I find many USA sources for linear supplies, and this one even has a choice to see pricing in Pounds Sterling:

HDD15-5-AG Power-One | Mouser

They also list the equivalent unit from International Power:

IHDD15-5.0 International Power | Mouser

Now I have NO idea where those would be shipped from, what if any import taxes or VAT may be charged, etc....I'm merely a satisfied Mouser customer here in the USA.

In addition, the "stock" Soundcraft power supply also provides +48 VDC for phantom powering.

Best,

Bri

thanks for the replies guys,

brian - i really appreciate your findings. I see yes that mouser have the power one hdd15 available to the uk now. I guess its a question of whether i feel competent enough to import one of these and set it up properly without producing any smoke!

I've noticed a couple of newish soundcraft dcp 125's on ebay that seem identical to the cps 150 except quite a bit newer (i think they came out to be compatible with the spirit range). I think this might be the safe bet for now, i should imagine this should sort out my major problems for now.

thanks again for the help
