ccpri/j replacement for amek 2500

Edit: forgot to mention, it's a relay. Does anyone know of a drop in replacement for these? Been looking everywhere and can't find anything.

I see Colin at AML sells adapter boards for the Angela that have the same footprint but at £15 a pop that might get expensive.

I can't find a data sheet for them either and I don't have one infront of me but I know they are 5v and 1k coil resistance.

Maybe Matt Syson could help, know you used to work for them, but gather the 2500 was before your time.

Much appreciated

Arthur

Hi
No it's an obsolete relay so you have to either get VERY lucky on ebay, design a substitute yourself, probably involving getting a small PCB made, or simply buying Colin's little boards.
£15 may sound 'steep' for a one off but factor your own 'working time' and it is not so bad.
Although the 2520 and 2500 had officially been 'discontinued' when I started at AMEK I have had my head in a few. The plasma meters were one excitement!

Thanks
I understand that £15 isn't much when you look at it like that but we are just working through the desk and not even sure if it is the relay that is the problem, but we seem to swap them out quite a bit when looking for faults and as it has 36 channels that can add up to quite a lot.
We are just trying to get as much fixed ourselves before calling our tech to finish anything we can't do. Think my boss is going to give him a call to see if he has any as he has been working this desk for decades.

This is the 2500 with big old VU's they tend to be too accurate, is this something that might be fixable? Or do they just need regular calibration?

Thanks for the help.

Hi
The VU meters should not 'drift' appreciably so you need to find out what is going on.
VU generally stands for Virtually Useless and is an INDICATION only although they meters used were pretty accurate. Having tested a few, the meter with a 3K6 resistor (standard value) is 'flat' when fed sinewave from about 10 Hz (needle wobble!) to nearly 100KHz, not bad for a magnet and copper wire assembly.

PS Bulk purchases from Colin tend to be rather cheaper than a handfull only.

Try to resolder these relays. Sometimes it´s just a cold solderjoint.
I´ve been trying to find cheaper alternatives than Colin´s offer but could not find a way to come up with anything. So take it as it is: Colin´s relays are the way to go and they are cheaper than any possible alternative I know of, even cheaper than DIY. No sh*t

Hi
24 according to Colin's site are £8 each, so 36 may be less still. You are getting close to the cost of a 'naked' relay without the adaptor board.

Yeah, went through loads today and rigged up a little test jig with a 9v battery and many were working well, in the end we had enough spares to get us through. It might be possible to hard wire replacements in (that's an alternative that we came up with, if we need to)
Don't mean to be hard on Colin he is a great resource and I have got transformers from him before.

Absolutely

The problem ist the high impedance of the coil. I could find only one manufacturer willing to do these HiZ coils (probably the company which makes these relais for Colin). But a small run of 100 will cost you more/piece than Colins relais with adapterboards included!
You definitely want these high imp. coils because it keeps supply load and ground currents low plus it simply works without mods with the relay drivers installed.

Well the good news is that after 5 solid days doing repairs we had a session today and the only issues we had were no monitor pot on channels 27 and 29 which didn't matter as they weren't in use anyway and the whole thing sounds fantastic (but that was mainly down to the killer band and a great engineer (that's not me by the way))
