Thread Starter | Soundcraft SC6000P fault - help!
Hi Folks,
I have a SC6000P with a few faults I'd like to fix / have fixed.
When the device is warmed, the SIP light glows in and out randomly. When its at its brightest, the audio fails, and the studio goes silent for a second or two, then comes back. Odd. Can't leave it like this, need some guidance on what to fix.
The RH channel also fails. Turning the signal levels way up loud will drive it to make the connection again, but on low signal levels you can guarantee it will cut out. This affects the headphone signal as well.
Related to both the above the stereo image seems vague and to shift. Hoping that by solving the above, the image will stay put.
Buss 1 is also dead. Not sure what the issue is here at all.
I am hoping to find someone here who can help with identifying likely causes and remedies. I have basic tools and fabricated test harness cables for the master module so it can be worked on out the main console.
If anyone can help I'd be very grateful.
[Studio - Portsmouth/Southampton/M27]

Hi,
It sounds like your master module may not be making good contact with the motherboard or loom (not real familiar with this desk).
Another potential fault is the SIP enable switch going bad, try exercising it a bunch of times.
Other things it would be helpful to know is the overall condition of the desk, ditto the power supply, any history of previous failures etc.
Best,
Ike

Thanks Ike,
The desk is in really good condition, ex BBC model, used to live in a warmed O/B van, and has only had light use before I picked it up. There have a been a number of issues on the master section - no audio at all at one point - but I had it looked at and an opamp was to blame. Quick tweak and we're back in business.
The switch does not seem to be the issue, in that it feels identical to the others and there is a noticeable difference in function, swictched in or out. I am just surprised it takes volume to get the channel going, then it's fine until it's turned down.
The loom connections have been plugged/unplugged to install test harnessing prior to this. They have therefore been reseated. Happy to check again.
Someone else suggested the h/p socket may be the issue, and suggested a new one. But channel goes on phones too, so my guess is it's upstream of the phone socket.

On the SIP issue, when it crops up again, try using every PFL/AFL/Solo switch in the desk, including ones that don't get used much and see if one of them has an effect on the problem.
Best,
Ike

Best,
Ike | my 6000 had the same problem and it was a faulty PFL switch in the fx return module.

I will definitely try all the above suggesstions. Something simple like degunking the insert sockets would be very nice if that solved it! It's going to be a question of catching it in the act.
Thanks for the ideas, I'll keep you posted.

Had a play with the sockets and the loom. Movement to the loom caused drop outs on BOTH channels. Reseated, much louder system overall. I also burnished the patchbay which had an effect as well.
The SIP issue remains. No exercising of switches on the rest of the board makes any odds. Master SIP button depressed I don't lose the signal as much. All Solo and AFL buttons work as they should.

Just a quick update on the console. I solved the left right channel issue but the PFL/AFL LED glows in and out. After about 4hrs it's on all the time. I have thoroughly exercised the switches and not found it. Grrr!!
My next step is likely to be removing half the channels and half the buss modules, testing to see if that eliminates it, and rebuild one block of channels at a time, if it reappears half that lot and remove, and go around until it comes down to one channel... unless anyone here has a better approach.
Ideas welcomed.
(Any electronics engineers within reach of Southampton/Portsmouth UK please get in touch if you think you can solve it in situ.)

It could still be a bad SIP switch. It may just need to be replaced.
Best,
Ike
