SONY DPS V77 buzzing sound

Bought a SONY DPS V77 in a pretty bad state, was hoping a battery change and software reset would do the trick but it seems this puppy suffers from something more serious. When I plug it in there is a loud buzzing noise coming from the transformer area, so I quickly power it down. The voltage is EU type - 100/230 - 120/240.. I really want to get it fixed, not giving up on this one.
Anyone have any experience with this sort of stuff happening?

I have fixed it now. For all others out there - There IS a switch on the power supply but it is only to switch from 230 to 240 or something along those lines - it is NOT for switching between 220 EU and 110 US voltages. At least in my model (which is Canadian, thus 110V). I did try powering it with 220 and near killed it.. turns out my unit was meant to be powered by 110 only. All problems dissappeared when I bought a step down transformer..

SONY DPS V77 does NOT have a switchable power supply.

Happy now that it works! Few more seconds of powering it with the wrong voltage would have been enough to fry the power supply or worse!

I have just checked that with my V77.
At the side of the unit there should be a Sony label with the model and serial number.
Under "MULTI-EFFECT PROCESSOR" that label also indicaties the voltage the V77 is set for.
Indeed it is not a switched power running from 100-240volts.
The Sony transformer is either a 220/230v model or a 100/120v model.
The primary of the tranformer only has three wires and that is where the switch on the psu board comes in: that switches between resp. 230 / 240v or 100/120v.
I agree that it is a bit odd that on the label of the cabinet is says 220/240, but on the pc board the switch has the white printed text 230 / 240.
You are a very lucky guy that the V77 survived the wrong power voltage.
Normally it dies directly when applying a too high power voltage.
Enjoy your V77 !!

Yeah, the moment the light came on and the writing appeared I knew I just got away with it! It's a really nice machine, would be shame if I fried it..
