Dual Pot? : : Sweepable Q Ranges on Equalization : :

Hey Guys, apologize for my English. Any recommendations on "dual pots"--I assure I am naming this components incorrectly. I am looking for pots that have two sets of lugs and seperate turn posts.. but are on the same post?? I again apologize for my incorrect wording and naming

The pots are 50kb, and I would ideally like swap out Low, Mid and High for dual pots. I however do not know what parts of the circuit to modulate with the variable resistor.

Some people have directed me in the way of API's use of the "dual knob" and I like how streamline their knobs look, but no no information on the pots themselves. I know though that the plastic knobs are "custom" and to contact the dealer for the actual knobs, but that is a whole separate thread on its own.

Thanks guy, I greatly appreciate the help.
Cheers : :

Should probably post this in the GeekSlutz forum, they'll be more useful.

I love the GML EQ setup for these as well, though it can be painful when you're sent a poor recall....

I think what you want is a dual concentric pot. If I understand you correctly it is two pots stacked on top of each other like the picture below?

That is exactly what I am looking for. Thank you, do you know where I can purchase these at a reasonable price, and then also the plastic knobs tops for the terminal shaft?

Have a look at either www.mouser.com or www.digikey.com or farnell

Found the pots, Thank you!

Which caps would I module with the second shaft of the variable resistors? I would like to do the Hi, Mid and Lo on 4 channels So I would need the components of each band of the eq on the input board.

2 pots instead of DUAL-variableR

and what happens if I use

two pots

in place of a dual pot

let me guess from the de-bunkers

"you would get an erratic , yet "interesting" eq curve"
(with all sarcasm held on "interesting")

oh wow, did i read you mind mister Benjamin (C)ee (J)aay

It depends on a circuit. You can't just put a dual concentric pot where a regular dual pot was and hope it works. Well, you can, experiment away, but I wouldn't expect functional results, and I wouldn't do it to anything nice.

Most EQs have their Q function dependent on the entire circuit. Only if it was designed to be parametric, and in that case it would come with an individual knob for Q, would you be able to adjust that with one variable resistor (read: pot).

There are easier parts of electronics design to get in to first. What you're doing is kind of like running for president without any foreign policy experience. Yeah, maybe you could pull it off with a lot of work, but doesn't it make sense to just learn what the hell you're doing first?
