Pro mic stands (counterweighted)

Hi people,

Can anyone tell me where 'high end' studios purchase their large counterweighted mic stands from.

Ive seen plenty of 'lighter' versions for sale online (eg Thomann, Studiospare etc) but none of them are the ones ive seen time and time again in pics.

I live in the UK, so info in this areas would be better

Any direction would be useful as I haven't had too much luck on the google search.

I picked up a couple of these off Amazon for $96 a piece. Seem pretty rugged so far, but might not be what you're looking for.

Cheers guys!

That's more like it!

It might be 'sad', but there's nothing like confidence in a well built bit of kit, and mic stands are no exception

Not sad at all. When you're hanging your vintage AKG C24 over a drum kit you want to be confident!

K&M. I believe that LatchLake went out of business and was quite pricey to start with. I use the On Stage PosiLoks on most all of my mic stands, but the stands are K&M. The video guys turned me on to video production-type sand bags for weighting bases of long booms.

Latchlake's web site is still up, I think and hope you're wrong about that. It's a pricey stand that's unbelievably sturdy and kind of beautiful, for a mic stand. I have a mic king 2200 which I like very much. I also have 4 On Stage Studio Booms, two that Kevin linked to and two of the heavier triangle base stands.
They have been fine here.

I've become a big fan of the Ultimate Studio booms. They have amazing lockable rollerblade wheels so they roll smoooooooth. I would buy K&M as well as Atlas too. My biggest concern with K&M would be sag in the boom arm. I've had a bunch of their normal stage boom stands start to sag with fairly low weights after a little while.
