I have an NS-10 I would like to use as a real mono reference. How do you go about hooking up just one speaker to an amp, I suppose with L and R summed, without causing any damage to the speaker or amp, due to loading?

I have 2 amps, an Adcom GFA-535, and a Crown D-40. I also have a couple impedance matching speakers switch boxes that could possibly help.

Do I need an amp that is bridgeable to make this happen, or can I do it with the ones I have at my disposal? Do I need a mono amp, and how would I go about getting L and R into it?

I know there is a way to do it safely. I just don't to blow anything up randomly trying stuff. I couldn't find enough information that pertained to this online, so I'm asking here.

Thanks in advance

first, get a mono signal - make it with a console, daw, or passive summing network - not by twisting wires together, and not with a power amp.

then, feed the mono signal to either channel of either amp, turn the other input's level down, and attach your speaker to the chosen channel's output.

great. I worked it up in my head to seem alot harder than it really was.

So I could go out stereo from my converters, into a mixer, pan the L and R signal down the middle, and come out of one side of the main monitor into one channel of an amp. Seems easy enough. Thanks

When you run out of other options:

Why Not Wye?

Splitting Signals
Subwoofing in Mono
Unbalanced Summing
Balanced Summing
Output Impedances

RaneNote
Why Not Wye?

Just got something called the - Galaxy Audio JIB/R Combiner. It converts a stereo to mono summer. Alot better for me than having to make cables with resistors and all that. I just plugged it in today. $30. It works great. I found it after nearly deciding on a box built by edcor. I didn't get that because but those are made to order, and it would have taken 6 weeks to get. Luckily I found the Galaxy box
