Bad Pot!!!

hello fellow slutz i recently acquired a MOTU 828mK1 and the main volume pot is bad and needs to be replaced, i'm having a hard time finding it so i was wondering if i could just unsolder it and switch it with the monitor level pot,
i'm new to this so i really don't know too much about what the monitor nob is for?
does anyone know the part number or replacement part for it?
i call MOTU but they were no too helpful, i know its a A20K audio taper
its got 6 inline pins, i tried spraying it with a cleaner and it didn't help
i even opened it up and straitened some of the wiper pins inside and it made it a little better.

thx
Neb

If you post a photo of the pot, I am sure that some of the experienced technicians here will be able to point you to a suitable replacement.

You know you're a stoner if you clicked on this thread expecting a completely different discussion...

Unfortunately with the pictures you can not see any manufacturers markings. Thus any guesses to its value and taper are up in the air. If the manufacturer states 20k audio then perhaps order a replacement from them?
However you stated that moving pins and a few tweaks helped the situation - perhaps re-soldering the pins might help. A cold solder joint can ruin even a million dollar console.

A monitor KNOB is an alternate source for your to monitor or listen to the audio programme. For example your feed to the main monitors in your studio (speakers), etc...

Yeah it worked my switching the pots since i dont use the monitor one, also taking them off was a bit of a pain and this was at work with a pro solder sucker and top of the line rework tools.
The taper pot on the link looks like the one in the unit but its only a 10k so im not sure if it will work?

You can just get a dual gang standard 20k pot and solder wires to their corresponding holes on the pcb...

I first did that but I don't know what I did wrong with the wiring couse it didn't work, I did find a potentiometer with 6 pins in line but it was linear and 50k, I solder it an it just until I find a 20k log with pins in a straight line, don't know the name of that.
In the meantime by having a 50k lineal it's ok? Or it may harm something?

You could leave the 50k on and there shouldnt be any problem.
