| RME Hammerfall AES/EBU out - does it suck? I've got one of these - it can output AES/EBU on a phono connecter - whasdatallabout? - i thought AES was a balanced signal!? - i've been trying to interface it with a load of digital gear - Hedd, L2 among others - a lot of the gear doesn't seem to like this AES/EBU signal coming out of the Hammerfall (my cables are proper) Has anyone else had a trouble with the Hammerfall's AES output? - i'm starting to think it sucks. What is a soundcard with a really good AES/EBU output? cheerio.

| Did you switche it within the software from S/PDIF to AES/EBU?

| If you haven't already, try a 110ohm to 75ohm balun adapter.. usually has XLR3 on one end and BNC on the other.. Canare, Neutrik and others make them. So you'd have a length of 75ohm coax with RCA on one end, BNC on the other, connect that to the BALUN, plug the BALUN into the Hedd or L2. Pray vigorously. Should work. |

| Um none of the Hammerfalls have AES/EBU. It's too "pro" for prosumer RME. That' phono jack is SPDIF ONLY. ![]() |

| Aes works, mathias at rme assured me it would work, and it does. its transformer isolated. I expressed my concerns about unballancing aes, so he suggested, instead of floating the shield or tying it to the cold, attatch it to the chassis. My lavry converters are connected this way. it works perfect. Btw mytek bundles rme cards with their converters. I think their software is amazing. The ability to rout any input to any or all outputs, with independent volume and panning, is the greatest. I tried every other card, But the digiface was the best for me. mesmer |

| Ah, you were referring to the Digiface. Your post says Hammerfall. |

| Yeah, anyone thinking of trying to get AES/EBU in and out of a hammerfall, think again........it doesn't work......despite what they claim........for this you'll want the RME digi 96/8 PAD ....works like a charm

| No, but I do have the AES 8 option for the LYNX II - works quite nicely, and the folks over at LYNX ONE are very responsive to resolving problems occurring with various DAWs. Cheers ![]()

Use the right cable, check 'Professional' under 'SPDIF Out' in the control panel and it works just fine into every device I've tried. | |

| Not for me......i've had 2 different PC's with hammerfalls in.....my cables are proper.......yes, some AES devices will sort of tolerate the hammerfalls' fake AES signal, others won't.......try this......run the same audio twice out of the hammerfall AES and try a null test.....i guarantee you won't get a full null with every AES device.......for instance, the Hedd will tolerate it at 44+48 but will throw a wobbly at 88+96.......i had random pops/clicks with hammerfalls......changed these for RME digi 96/8 PAD's and all clicks dissapperaed......same cables, same 'puters an all......i know other people who had the same experience...... |

| The RME ADI-8 DD is an excellent format converter. I bought on when demoing the TC 6000 so that I could interface with anyone's system. It was flawless. ![]() |

| Are you saying the 96/8 PAD adaptor cable will work on the Hammerfall card cause at xvision they said it won't but I have the feeling it would as it's the same cable as the spdif one on the hammerfall but it has aes instead of spdif. SO it looks anyway. ? I'm using a little m audio co3 spdif to aes converter into hedd. It works but I don't think I really need it. Spdif worked as well. |
