| Lives for gear | Identify This Cap Please
Can anyone decipher the value of the yellow cap in this picture? It's marked OC 0148 & 29K1007J. Thanks ![]() -SD

Is it a cap or a resistor? I can't read the silk screen on the PCB. Paul |

Thanks Paul, Well I thought it was a cap, but I could be wrong. It goes from one point on the pcb labeled R1, and the other leg jumps to the turret which also has a C3 label underneath. The turret is terminated on the outer capsule ring. -SD |

Its a very high value resistor.......at a guess 29 gigohm. Why do you want to know ? Changing it will achive nothing.

For anyone who's wondering, this is an e250. I removed the inner screen from the basket, installed a WIMA cap from plate to ground, and installed a Mullard black-plate. I'm also about to replace some of the resistors with Vishays. -SD |

| Hard to say. The "1007j" would seem to imply a 1e^9 value with a 5% tolerance. It could well be a 1G resistor (because 1e^9 pF is a huge capacitance...). -tINY |

^ I appreciate the help tINY and others. I'm going to look into it further at some point. -SD |

Condenser microphones are probably the only place you're going to see a high-value ceramic resistor like that in pro audio gear. It feeds the polarizing voltage into the capsule. Since no current flows, it can be a very high resistance without dropping the voltage. This high resistance prevents audio signal from being lost into the power supply capacitance. It also needs to be very clean to prevent noise.
