Adding transformers to a DIY passive summing amp

So I'm looking to build a simple passive summing mixer like the one here: NYD Passive Summing Box - D.I.Y. Recording Equipment

I have just started getting into DIYing so I'm no electronics expert, but I'm pretty handy with an iron and schematic. My question is about adding some kind of transformer stage to either the inputs or outputs. I'm hoping that it will add some character to the summing. My understanding is that adding transformers to the two outputs would probably be easier and cheaper. So what would I need to do? Is it a matter of just wiring up a 1:1 transformer, or are there other components that will be needed to once you start throwing transformers into the mix. I read somewhere about someone adding DC current to drive the core of the tranny in order to get more character out of it. Please help point me in the right direction.

Cheers

Hi
There are loads of threads about this subject and hours of time wasted in typing it all out by many contribitors. Please do a search and come back with an original question.
It is all 'subjective' anyway, simply get a transformer or two and try it out.

Some transformers (i.e. Jensens) are quite flat. It will balance an output, but not impart much on the sound.

For "character" try old UTC, Triad, Peerless, etc.

Like Matt said, there are many existing threads on the subject.
