Thread Starter | Creating 1/4" unbalanced TS Splitter
One of the bands I'm playing in is working on developing its "sound," and we've come up with the idea of running the acoustic guitar through a Fender Twin. We like the sound, but would like to be able to mix the clean signal with the amp'd signal, so I'm planning to split the guitar output. One side goes to the amp, one side goes to a DI. When splitting an unbalanced signal (1/4" in this case), can I simply build a little box with three female jacks, connecting the input TIP to both output TIPs and input GROUND to both output GROUNDs? I've read some things on mic splitters that involve transformers and stuff, but I don't see any reason that this system would require that. Any problems with this plan? Thanks

Why not just run the unbalanced out of the DI to the amp?

That is exactly how a DI works. The 2 1/4" jacks are paralleled: guitar into one, output to amp input from the other. The XLR feeds the mixer.

I should have clarified: my only DI is a Countryman Type 85

Oh wow, I feel like a total idiot. I didn't know the Type 85 could be run this way... I thought the jack labeled "AMP" was only to be used for amplifier inputs, didn't know it could also be run parallel ![]() Still, if I wanted to build a splitter as described above, would it work without any problems? |
