Otari MX-70 replacement relays

Hi.

can anyone suggest model numbers /specs for replacement relays on the audio cards of an Otari MX70? The original relays are

Matsushita DST-M
DC 5V
AG2019
801 14

Would be absolutely great to hear of someone who successfully replaced the relays for the recording and erase heads (RL1 and RL2) due to the "recording ghost noise" that seems to affect these machines. Thank you!

cjmnash, oh thank you, it would be terrific to know more about these relays. It's a 16channel machine, which is in very good condition and I calibrated it recently, so all is fine except for the noise which I assume (from reading posts about similar problems) to be due to these relays.

best,
H

OMRON G6E-134P is probably what you want. Also, you will want a desoldering station with a very small tip to avoid damaging the tiny solder pads for these relays.

G6E-134P-ST-US-DC5 Omron Electronics Low Signal Relays - PCB

I have successfully repaired relay problems in one of these machines. Then FEDEX destroyed the machine in shipping. Long story.
I now have many extra parts for these.

i found my notes on the last one i re- relayed (is that a word?)

it's not the same part # as the above link, but i know the ones i've ordered in the past have worked perfectly, and for about the same price.

are you looking to have them installed too?

Chris, thanks for looking these up! No I can exchange them myself and will first try with one or two cards before I place a larger order and start swapping all of 'em.
What is your manufacturer and part number?
Thanks, H

Thanks for the part number! I will definitely try a few of these Omrons to see if they make the ghost noise go away. Sorry to hear about your destroyed MX, good to know that you are selling parts though!

best, H

I love mouser BUT Jameco has the cheapest price:

G6E-134P-ST-US-DC5: OMRON ELECTRONICS: Electromechanical

It says "CLOSEOUT" which might mean it is being discontinued.

Thanks, I just ordered a few G6E-134P Omrons to test one or two Otari audio cards with the new relays.

I think you will be pleased with the outcome IF:

-you do all 3 relays for each channel
-go ahead and order the 50 (for the price break, plus they could get discontinued, plus you will have a few extras)
-you are VERY careful removing the old relay. my experience was that it was hard to get enough heat on that tiny glob of old solder so it can be sucked out.

Try melting some new solder to the pads to loosen it up. The trick is more heat is helpful, BUT can cause the tiny PCB traces to lift. I remember thinking I had got all the solder out that I could get, and flexed the relay to try to coax it out, then delicately pulling it out, and UP came top-side traces with it. I had not got all the solder, AND the heat had loosened the hole-plating and traces. Then I had to check the schematics to make a proper repair.

If you don't have GOOD de-soldering equipment, it would be a tough job.
Another thing you can try, just for fun, cause its free and educational, use a dremel to drill a tiny hole in the existing relays and spray in some questionable substance.

TRJanuary, thank you so very much! Success!
I received four G6E-134P Omrons today and soldered them into cards 15&16! The 'ghost noise' is gone!! Had to listen to that golden silence (or tape hiss that is) for two minutes smiling! So I guess I am another Otari MX** user who can report that changing relays on the audio PCBs makes a strange noise go away in record mode. Note that I exchanged RL1 and RL2 only for now, as RL3 is for the switching of an external noise reduction unit and I suppose this switching is not really affected by contacts gotten corroded a bit. Thanks again all who helped me here!
Now on to ordering more parts and changing all the other card's relays!
