| Gear maniac | Deciphering if my Hardware is NZ power or US
Hello all you Geekslutz! I've just traded a JDK R24 for the equivalent of a Folcrom passive summer clone and a Gyraf SSL clone built into one 2U Rack unit. Now according to the guy I traded with says it runs on American power (which isn't a problem, I do have a stepdown transformer) but just above where you plug the power cord in, there is writing that says "only use with 250v Fuse". Wouldn't this imply that it runs on NZ power? I tried to get a look at the PSU but the design of the unit makes it very hard to look at the front of the PSU without completely taking the thing apart (the summing part of it is attached to underneath the lid). I can maybe get a camera in there and take some shots if that helps. Let me know if anyone can figure it out, or a way I can figure it out myself. Cheers! |

Photos will help. In theory, it should be trivial to install an appropriate replacement power transformer, if the equipment is not configurable for dual voltages. Assuming that the power supply is linear (ie not switchmode): If the power transformer has dual primaries, they will be wired in parallel for 110/120VAC, or wired in series for 220/240VAC operation. In that case, there may be a switch or wire links to configure the voltage, or if the transformer has flying leads, then these could be rewired. That might get you started. But do put up some pics if you can. Paul |

250V on the fuse is not the normal running voltage of the fuse. It's the minimum level of voltage the fuse is designed to prevent arcing across. Has nothing to do with the running voltage level. Cheerio
