Possible compressor/limiter issue with UA LA-610???

Hello all!

Picked up an LA-610 and everything sounds as should but the compressor section is making wonder if it's experiencing some technical difficulties.

When compressing and limiting, it is missing beginning transients every stinking time no matter how much reduction is applied. For example, take a percussive bass line with lots of pauses. It misses the initial transient, or first note. If I continue playing, it compresses and limits as should while sounding as it should per given settings. But pause, and it will miss the transient again coming back in before it grabs. Vocals, piano, etc. all the same

I know compressors can miss here and there, but is the compressor section in this strip really this slow?...or is something wrong with it?

Any knowledge or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

It is really slow. You can check the specs at the UA website
With tons of skill on overdubs you can do a muted pick/ plossive to engage the compressor than perform the part (big pita but doable)

The La2 was originally designed to limit radio station content. It can't catch the first transient. You can put another compressor after it set to brickwall out incoming peaks. Or you can trigger it A few times like I do before every take to get the compressor fired.

If the instrument comes in the song periodically the compressor will slowly rise down and miss the first peak. Just trigger it by smashing the piano or whatever A couple times just before the take. Then edit that out later....

Also sometimes I just edit the peak manually in the Daw.

Yeah, I was afraid someone was going to say and suggest this. Why couldn't there just be a bad component lol I'm tracking to tape, but haven't decided between dumping and editing digitally or splicing. Think this is helping me make my mind up. I'll give those things a try though.

Thanks!
