repairing small tears in speaker

I have heard of two ways to "fix" small rips and holes on a speaker:
1) use wood glue and tissue paper to seal the rip (hopefully some of the cone paper is still there)
2) use nail polish to prevent the hole from becoming bigger and totally destroying the speaker.

I know neither of these two solutions are hifi or best case scenario, but i need to fix this hammond speaker and would rather not replace it without trying to fix it first.

if anyone has any experience with either of these two methods, or knows another method, i am all ears !!

thanks.

For paper cones, PVA and a patch of ripped (not cut) rough (not smooth) paper has always worked for me.
Do this in both sides of the cone.
Some waterbased black paint makes it almost invisable. I use car tyre paint.
If done properly, you wont hear any difference in the sound.
If the rip is in the (paper) surround, you might have more luck with thinner paper and a more flexable glue.
