| Gear maniac | beginner diy project progression
I was wondering if anyone could help me with a sequence of projects from easiest to hardest. I was thinking I would start with a sound skulptor mp573 or eq573 or the classic api vp26. then maybe LAZ EQN1084? then from what i read maybe gyraf GSSL mix bus comp JLM audio has a LA500 opto comp kit with all parts included. I read that a vca comp is not too bad so that's why I figured the SSL before an opto. Then I don't know what order to put the mnats rev d 1176, drip LA2A, Pultec EQP1a

I've built many VP26's one mnats 1176 and I am working on the drip opto 4 currently. I can't comment on the other builds, but the VP26 is a really simple and rewarding build. the 1176 is probably mid difficulty, as you need to do a fair bit of wiring and some parts sourcing and you will need to work safely with mains voltages. the drip la2a is at the higher difficulty level. You will need choose your own components and enclosure. Plus you will be working with a high voltage tube circuit. I'd start with the vp26, everything is included in the kit, instructions are clear and simple, and you will have a kick ass preamp when you're done. ...you'll just have to wait till the kits are back in stock.
