Trannies for a dbx 118

Hey all. I'm quite new at mod'ing gear but was thinking of putting a couple of quality input transformers into my dbx 118. I like the compression on it, but thought nice colored trannies would do it some good. It's also at comsumer level I believe (with RCA connections).
Is this simply a matter of putting them between the input jack and the next thing in the chain? Could I still use the RCA jacks? (I assume that XLRs won't make the thing any more balanced than it is.) Would new trannies (input and/or output) give me a +4dB level? Would a +4dB level distort the thing seeing as it's originally -10dB (I believe)? Would output trannies affect the oversound as much as those on the input?
Any suggestions for a good input trannies (colored is definitly not a problem) is greatly appreciated.
Looking forward to getting into this DIY/ mod'y stuff.
Thanks and take care.

it should be not a problem to add trafos on the in and outputs for balanced connections... do you have a schematic of the dbx 118 ??

No I don't have a schematic. I was hoping that it would simply be a matter of inserting them after the RCA inputs (or just before the outs). And the right transfo will make the thing balanced?
Do I have to be careful with regards to the signal level of the transformers (-10 or +4?)
Thanks

Anyone got any info? I'm mostly wondering if it's simply a matter of putting the transformers right after the inputs and if I have to watch out for their level (+4/ -10).
Is it that simple, or more complicated than I think?
Thanks for any info and for helping a DIY mod newbie.
