| Audio (logrithmic) Pots for API I have several Brent Averill / API 312 recaps. When I got them the Gain pots they used were linear rather than tapered audio pots - they felt they couldn't get equivalent quality in the tapered log pots. Anybody suggest a source for quality Audio taper pots for these units? ...J |

| Reverse Log pots of high quality ... or any quality, are getting harder to find everyday. This is one of the reasons why many people chose to go for rotary switches and resistors. |

| I guess that has been a problem for a long time. In perusing another thread (regarding 1073 clones), a reference was made to Dan Alexander's website on which he has posted some tech materials about Neve and API...one of which is a schematic for the 312 Pre. On it there is a note regarding the Gain pot...it notes it as being linear...I don't know if this is OEM info (I'm going to drop him a note) but... Guess I'll stick with linear pots for now...hate to ruin classic gear ...J |

| R.G. Keen is always worth a read. http://www.geofex.com/Article_Folder...s/potscret.htm Even if you don't use one of his secret pot mods, you will know more about what's inside a pot. Knowledge is good. |

| I was researching Log pots recently and came across these from Marchand Electronics. Is $25 for a 12 position stepped 10K pot a rip off? Anybody ever dealt with this company before? - jon

| I wouldn't use those Lorlin switches for a volume/gain control in the application you're talking about. Go for a Grayhill switch instead. Better reliability and nicer feel. We often build up Grayhills for this kind of thing. In fact, just yesterday when I was cleaning out loads of hell boxes I came across a dual 10K 24 position Grayhill already built up. If you need some 12 position or 24 position shorting Grayhills, I keep those in stock. Email me if you need some little parts like this to build up attenuators. Nice pots you can buy easily are the Noble pots. Michael Percy usually keeps decent stock. Michael Percy's website Look on page 14 of his catalog for the pots and attenuators. |

| I have often used the enclosed Lorlin switches with good results. However I do think you should take up EveAnna on the offer of the 24 position shorting Grayhills. Very good indeed and if I had access to such a switch I probably wouldn't use the 12 way Lorlins. |

| Buy 10k reverse log Alps pots here (as well as other many other goodies) Look for the BE48 mic pre module and just below that is the pot. These pots are carbon with 41 click detents, 6mm dia shaft, 12.5mm mounting height, 7mm bush, PCB or wire onto pins. Tim.
