Interference/hum with console hooked up to Echo Layla 3G - none with ADA8000

I recently purchased a 70's Yamaha PM1000 console. When hooking the 4 master and 2 echo (aux) busses up to my ECHO Layla 3G interface I get a lot of interference/hum. This does not happen when it is connected to my Behringer ADA8000.

What could this be?

EDIT: Here's a quick clip of what it sounds like. The first 8sec is through the ECHO Layla and the rest is the ADA8000.

It is called a groundloop. Use the search function.

Is this really a ground loop? I've always thought that a ground loop would mean buzz. Either way, I've put a link to a clip of what happens in my 1st post.

Run two layla 3g's with ada8000's and never heard that noise before. Is the noise being captured by the A/D from the console, not d/a -> console -> a/d, right?

My guess would be ground loop or bad/shitty computer PSU.

Bump for an old thread of mine.

I've done countless searches and tried the suggestions to kill this ground loop, but I haven't succeeded. The one I haven't tried is to use one of these:

BEHRINGER: HD400

Could it work if I put one of these inline between the console outputs and the ECHO?

Does that sound occur when the Layla is used with other sources? Assuming balanced connections, have you tried lifting the cable shields at one end?

No, the Layla is fine with every other piece of equipment I use with it. By lifting the cable shields at one end, do you mean just disconnecting the shielding at Pin 1 of the XLR connector or the shield of the TRS jack? Haven't tried that, so I'll give that a go.

Yes, that's the idea.

No doubt you've found the Rane library, but just in case:

Sound System Interconnection

Good luck. Paul
