Help needed - problem with SSL computer floppy 3,5"

Hi everyone

I have an SSL G-series console and I still do mixing on the board saving it onto the G+ computer floppy drive... Old fashioned, I know, but it sounds real good and usually works.

The main problem is the floppy drives, that suddenly stops working, now and again, and I can't get the G+ computer to copy the disc content from one disc to another.

Now I am thinking it might be possible to buy an external floppy drive and backup the floppy to a hard disc and transfer the information back on to another floppy, which the G+ computer then reads.

Does anyone know if this is possible? and what do I need to make it work besides a floppy/USB drive?

I hope someone out there can help...
Thanks!

try this www.microanalytic.com/products/ssl/03_610r.html Don't toss those drives!!! The reason a $20 floppy drive won't work is the firmware. You can however install the pcb with the firmware onto a new Teac drive of the same series.

Resurrecting this...

Does anyone know what model TEAC is in these puppies? my drives are behaving the same, the computer boots and I can mix etc but the drives seem to give up when doing copies, formats etc.

One thing you could try. You can buy on Evilbay a floppy replacement using a USB stick. Fits a standard drive bay size hole. The stick can be formatted as many floppies, and otherwise acts just like a standard floppy. I fitted one in a Waldorf Wave, worked a treat.

the SSL needs a very particular sort of floppy drive - will NOT work with a generic pc-drive.

Try cleaning: cleaning disc, and manually cleaning drive mechanics (specially head moving screw).

Thanks, yes I'm in regular contact with Keith and Kathy.. good people.

I've actually fixed the problem. I jiggled the main DC connector on the main computer mother board (The sheathed DC cable connect) and the floppies have been good since.

I might consider buying another set in the future as a backup however.
