OK, here's one being careful about the guitar buzz and gain staging and whatnot:

http://www.charmedquark.com/Web2/TmpAudio/REDDTest3.wma

Same scheme as before drums, bass, and left/right guitars. Same recording scheme as before except an SM57 for the guitars this time instead of the ribbon mic, and a little bit more EQ this time, though still all just with a little 3 band, so nothing elaborate.

Hey, just wanted to share this. I put up my second REDD47 in the classifieds a couple days ago. I was doing some samples to post with it. I did one of running a drum track out and back in through it. Obviously it would be better to record through it to begin with and get the benefits without the cost of a second round trip, but I couldn't do that. And this also allowed me to provide the original to compare against the processed signal, to demonstrate how nice it sounds.

The results are not subtle. It provides a really nice harmonically enhanced boost in the low and high end. When the tracks are level matched (as these are below), effectively the mud gets pushed down and the low and high is very nicerized. It sounds like it's EQ'd but it's not, and the crispy high end is nice.

If you want to test yourself don't peak at the underlying URL. This is a loop, BTW, so that it doesn't keep changing and you can evaluate the differences more easily.

Drums A

Drums B

I don't think you'll have much trouble picking out the REDD47 processed version. But you can always download them so that you can more quickly switch back and forth.

It makes a great bass DI as well. Here's a bass straight into the DI into the converters:

DRIP is by far the top notch guy on this.
not cheap, but after you close the lid and turn the unit on (providing you followed the detailed description) you understand straight away what you paid for.

my 2 cents.

Mattia.

I've been trying to get a hold of Greg (?) through the Drip Electronics website for a couple of weeks, but so far no reply (holiday season and all I guess). I want to get an Opto 4 PCB for an LA-2A build but his website says 'out of stock'... i'm wondering if I should interpret that as meaning 'more stock arriving soon' or 'discontinued item'. Hmmm....

Sorry to heat that. Five of my close friends did a DRIP build and had a very difficult time getting a hold of Greg via email and had better luck via phone.

Hope you hear back soon.

It means "more stock arriving". He keeps those in stock usually and restocks when he can. So, I wouldn't worry about it to much. I know he just got more stock of the Pultecs so I am sure the Opto 4's will be coming soon.

On another forum a member informed me the Opto 4 boards have been out of stock since August. Well, time is of the essence, so i've ordered a Hairball 1176 rev D kit instead - and maybe i'll sort myself a G-SSL kit with the rest of my budget.

The LA-2A will have to wait for another day.

Smart move I think. U could be waiting a while before those boards are ready.

Does anybody have any current information they can relay to me about dealing with Drip Electronics? I'm still very much interested in building a LA-2A or Sta-Level, but both PCBs are out of stock and have been for quite a while. I've registered/posted on the Drip forum with no response from Greg (?) whom i'd assume is the forum moderator. I even tried calling a couple times in the middle of the night last week but no response (i'm an Aussie remember... 3am to me = USA lunchtime).

Drip Electronics seem to be quite the dichotomy - on one hand they have a fantastic website and brilliant schematic/build guides to ensure first class results. But on the flip side they also have a lot of long term stock-outs on what i'd imagine are their most popular products, and they don't embrace electronic contact.

I really want to try a Drip PCB, basically because Greg's done such a fantastic job of designing and documenting the build process, and his PCBs are obviously top notch - as a DIY-er I want to support his efforts and buy his product... but i'm not sure how he goes about his business - whether he's in full swing and too busy to look sideways, perhaps just a hobbyist with no time outside his dayjob, or maybe has lost interest in the game and has no plans to press more PCB's...

Hmmm...

There is someone on the Drip forum called 'toobchick'. She is an admin I believe, so I think it is better to send her a message.

Hey Guys,

This may be a bit late, but I haven't seen Anna (t00bchic) around on Drip forums for ages. The most success I have is via Marie in Sales/Shipping, especially re pending releases/stock numbers etc. She's great to deal with.

Yes the releases are sporadic, but she will shoot an email when they are newly in stock. I also keep an eye on Greg's twitter feed for whats around the corner too.

Matt
