Thread Starter | building psu for mixing console, question about grounding
Hello. I am building a new PSU for a dynamix 3000 mixing console using the Power-One HDD15-5-AG and a 48v module. It needs +15v, -15v, +48v and ground. The mains ground is connected to the chassis with a bolt. But I'm unsure if I should connect the mains ground or the floating ground (labeled "COM") to the mixing console. Thanks |

i didn't. i hooked the chasis to mains / iec ground and the audio ground to the com on the board. what case are you mounting it in? the primary winding on the tranny is pre-jumpered for US btw (just in case your elsewhere) |

| Dynamix 3000 PSU
Hi, does anybody know if the fuse for the original PSU should be quick or slow? I can't get mine to start because the fuse goes all the time and it's a quick 1A! Same thing happens w. mixer connected or disconnected...no leaks from capacitors and no signs whatsoever of burnt components inside...what to do here? Hi Mike, I tried w a slow but same thing occurs, the power-trafo is buzzing pretty loud for half a second and then the fuse is blown again...don't know what to do here, the seller says he will fix it on his expense which is good but at the same time I think I need a better PSU so my question goes to you guys who have done this, what is the cost for the abovementioned PSU recommended by Jim Williams etc or are there any complete solutions and brands for units like this to buy, recommended output ampères??? PS I live in Sweden so it's more relevant w European products here DS |

Does it have a load on it? If not, if it does it with NO load you have a serious problem. Could be a Bridge, a cap... |

This happens w. NO LOAD so yes I guess it's a serious problem but where do you think the problem lies, the trafo is making way too much noise/buzz/hum during this ½ second* What about those Lambda psu's, how many watts are rquired for a mixing console like the D 3000? I found a Lambda +/- 15v on ebay.uk it has 40 w...and then how to go about for the pwr +48v??? |

Hi If you have severe buzzing then you have not wired up the primary correctly. The pins you need to connect are usually printed on the frame somewhere. There are basically 2 'half' windings on these units so for USA you would have 2 links, putting them in parallel but Europe would have 1 link, putting the windings in series. Post a pic of what you have done and it may become clear. If you wire the 2 half primaries 'opposing' each other you will get loud complaints and no output. There is a fifth terminal as one winding is 0-110 Volts and the second winding is 0-110-130 Volts (from memory) allowing use on 110, 130, 220 and 240 Volts. Hopefully you haven't damaged it yet.
