Anyone know of any credible shops that do this? Power xformer for an Ampeg V4. Thanks ahead of time, Paul

You could send it to the shop I work at: www.amprepair.com or if you know what you are doing try mercury magnetics for a replacement. I don't think rewinding a power tranny is worth it. You should really have someone who knows what they are doing make the repair. Jesse |

Hey Jesse, Actually I'm trying to help a poster on an Ampeg forum. He's already gotten a quote from Mercury for(what I believe is) a rewind of his old xf for $400. I thought there might be a less expensive shop around. Stancore used to make decent replacements, but nothing up in the 500-550 VAC range anymore, and Thordarson no longer exists. I'll have him contact your shop. With the resurgance of popularity in tube products, you'd think some generic xfs would be available somewhere, but.. Thanks, Paul | |

Yeah no shit, you'd think you would be able to get a transformer of that caliber fairly easy. Actually you probably can, pester all those big companies like 'Allied' and so on maybe even mouser elec. would be able to help you out. If you do find one though don't pay 400 bucks, that's ridiculous.

Thanks for the replies. I looked at a Hammond sheet at: http://www.hammondmfg.com/263.htm I don't have the specs on the original xF, but the paper shows that it's 100 watts output, and needs at least 500 VAC on the sec.(545 VDC is the first measurement on the available paper), plus 6.3 heater winding. Hammond has close stuff, but I don't thing the VA specs or physical specs match up to the original as I remember them. That's his job to research. Has anyone ever heard of this place? I got one glowing response about them, and have bookmarked them for my own future reference. http://www.heyboertransformers.com/overview.shtml Thanks, Paul |
