Trying to revive a Yamaha SPX2000

I am trying to revive a Yamaha SPX-2000.

It's condition now is that when you power it up, you get a blank screen and none of the buttons are lit.

Earlier today I powered it up and got a blank screen and then it booted up properly after some minutes.

I used it some weeks ago and then I got something like "update firmware".

I don't remember if "low battery" or similar has flashed on the screen.

Any suggestions for fixing this?

Maybe it has a lithium button cell memory backup that has to be replaced.

You then have to reset the unit.

Yes, it has the CR2032 lithium battery.
Anybody know how to reset it if I replace the battery?

Did you already measure the battery. It has to be 3volt.

Before you replace the battery, shorten the terminals of the HOLDER for a few seconds, to empty any voltage left in caps. Then replace the battery.

Sorry, I dont know how to, or if you have to reset.

I just measured the battery, it's shows 3,2V. So that should be ok.

Thanks for the link S2udio!
But I guess I am not pro enough to fix it alone without any help.

So, has this happened to anyone else?
The display lights up. It's blank, but there are black squares on the uppermost line
No buttons light up.

Unfortunately no!
I didn't pursue this any further, so it's still dead as a dodo.

+1 on that. Have a look around this forum for a couple of SPX-90 threads that deal with power supply issues. Any piece of gear with an SMPS, that "kind of lights up but doesn't work", or "works sometimes..." or, "works but takes a while to turn on fully", or "was working fine for years, until I turned it off for a day or two and now it won't power up" are ALL symptoms of capacitor failure in these kinds of power supply.
Best,
Ike

Experienced the same problems, would not initialise, then last week would not work at all. I bought a new supply from Yamaha...didn't have time to play around and repair, not only that there are no schematics for the psu as Yamaha buy them from another company...anyway, pop the hood. 4 screws to remove, input/output connectors, job done in 30 secs. So far so good, has booted first time. Also replaced the 2032 while it was apart. Hope this helps.
