JBL/Urei 7110 output transformer

I want to install the output transformer upgrade on my JBL/Urei 7110, but JBL doesn't carry it any more. This is my first gear upgrade and I'm wondering if I can order this part from Jensen or if anyone one has one to sell?

Thanks!

Call Dave Hill at Jensen and get the JT-11 output transformer, no better choice.

I called JBL pro a few months ago and they didn't have any in stock. I think they are listed as in stock from an out of date PDF on their site.

Thanks.

I'm a little confused about the transformer...the manual says it adds balanced operation, but there are already XLR connectors on the unit. Are the stock 7110s running unbalanced through the XLR connectors?

Thanks,
Michael

According to the manual, it has balnced input, but unbalanced output. Adding the transformer of course changes this.

Thanks,

JBL says they no longer have the part.
Any help with this?
Can we just buy the Jensen and do the mod ourself?

I also have been looking on Jensen's site and it looks like perhaps the JT-11-FLPC could work. Anyone else have any insight into which Jensen works?

Maybe drop a dime and ask? If Dave Hill can't give you an answer, Bill Whitlock certainly can. They are there for your questions, they are nice people and they don't charge for advice. How much is a phone call these days?

Apart from balancing the output and presumably improving signal to noise, will the transformer alter the tone much? How much?

You should be able to put any 600:600 transformer in this thing right? I am looking into one of these, and I thought it would be cool to cram a lundahl or something in it. Its between the 7110 and a symetrix 501 right now. I do love that urei sound!

I've got two 7110's, one with the output trafo and one without. They are two comps that I'll probably never sell. They are fantastic!

I owned a Symetrix 501 a few years back. I sold it after a month.

Sweet! Now I am even more interested in the 7110. Hopefully I can still get my hands on one in the near future.

Can anyone confirm that a transformer like the Jensen JT-11-FLPC will work in a JBL 7110? JBL pro tells me they no longer sell the UREI transformer and no other transformer will work... but I would not be shocked if they're just towing that line to prevent tech support calls about installing other transformers... anyone actually used or seen someone use a JT-11-FLPC in the 7110?

Yes, I emailed Jensen, and they said it will work, and that there's more ppl. that have done this. The difference is that you have to bolt the Jensen transformers to the case yourself, since they won't fit on the PCB.
I found some original output transformers, but the Jensens are cheaper.

Not sure yet, but I gravitate towards the Jensen.
Yes, like to know; anyone that has done this?

7110 transformer from Jensen

I contacted JBL in November and they didn't have the transformer in stock anymore. I then contacted Jensen and they have started making a direct replacement. It is JT-14550. Larry Hathaway at Jensen had this to say about it, "Our replacement has the same pinout and winding as the original but is made with a nickel alloy core instead of the original steel core for much better low frequency distortion." It worked out to about $140 for a pair shipped.
WELCOME TO JENSEN TRANSFORMERS, INC.
