Thread Starter | US DBX 160XT vs UK DBX 160XT
Hi there I have a DBX 160XT which i bought in the US - it works at 110V. I also bought a converter from Maplins so that i could use it in the UK. It seems to work OK, but there is a quiet, but noticeable hum which comes a little from the unit, but also from the 230 -> 110V converter, which was just a cheap thing. I'd like to buy a second 160XT. I plan to use it on different sources, but would like the option of running them as a stereo pair, as you can slave them pretty easily. My questions are: - Will there be any kind of difference in sound between UK and US versions (other than the normal variations from unit to unit) ? - Is this slight hum normal/and to be expected? I don't have it with any other equipment. It's not very loud at all - but my room is extremely quiet. It's just about noticeable enough so that if i'm not using my equipment, i unplug it (as the DBX has no power on/off button!). If i have the DAW on, i can't really hear it. Many thanks!

My guess would be that the hum you have (since you did not have it in the states) is a function of the cheap power converter and the resulting RF. There should be no different between the two, other than the AC power setting. You probably could have swapped a couple of wires in yours and used it without a converter.

I just got a 160Xt and it looks like it was switchable at one point but now has some kind if cover over the switchable part that is stamped metal. Still has the silkscreen markings for 220v-240v. Btw, my led meters react very slow for input and output but the GR is fine. Any ideas?
