| Gear addict | Has anybody modded the TapeOp mic to take Phantom power? I was wondering if this has been done before and if somebody had schematics. If not, how hard would it be to design? Here's the original article http://prosoundweb.com/recording/tap...mic_16_1.shtml

| If you mean the tapop ribbon microphone, there's no mod necessary. A ribbon microphone does not require phantom power, but under normal circumstances, should not be harmed by the presence thereof. If you're talking an active buffer stage, based on the phantom power, ya, sure, you could go there, but then you lose some of the versatility of the microphone. For me, the sound of the mics tend to change a bit from mic pre to mic pre, so building an active buffer will potentially remove some of how the ribbon responds under different conditions. | Look for Christopher Hick's PZM mods - there's a simple phantom power circuit there. I designed something even simpler when I wanted to do the same thing but Christopher's designs are probably better because the output impedance on each leg is better matched than my circuit. Cheers James. |

| Gear addict | excellent, thanks I'll see how to fit that into the original design
