Thread Starter | 48V from board to mic's power supply. Really bad?
While setting up to test out the polar patterns of our Rode Classic I realized that phantom power was activated on the channel the mics power supply was plugged into. I have tried to reinforce the importance of leaving phantom power OFF at the end of each day because I figure 48V applied where it isn't needed could really f*** up our dynamic mics and mics that have their own supplies. When testing this mic I had a really hard time getting any signal out of it without really excessive noise, and at high gain settings the level was unacceptable. I have heard that this mic is noisy but I am afraid that the 48V from the board might have fried the supply somehow. Is this possible? Please tell me I am crazy. Post Script: In addition to my request for phantom power to be turned off at the end of every day, I have since made it a point to double-check at the start of each day on every channel...just in case. I feel like a d*** bringing up things like this because I am the assistant in the situation. |

I've used the Rode Classic before and have been really impressed with it. Sounds great on grand piano. -- I've definately seen 48V been sent to a power supply for a mic like the Classic without there being any damage, but who knows. Maybe it wasn't working before you got it? Best of luck, J |

Yeah, the owner of all of this equipment had a fire a few years ago and the Rode was one of the damaged pieces. However, he sent it back to the company and they completely refurbished it frre of charge, so it's probably just operator error, as usual. Thanks for the reply.
