AMS Problem: Howard Jones / Kaya Music Systems Ltd

I bought an AMS 1580 recently and there was a problem with it so I contacted Howard Jones at Kaya Music Systems Ltd here in the UK. (http://www.kayamusic.com/3040/frames.php)

He said, "no problem, send it up" and I duly did so. I called to check it had arrived he said " yes. I'll have it done in two days". This was on September 3rd. I have called him nearly everyday since then. I have left dozens and dozens of normal, peaceable, enquiring messages; I have spoken to his young daughter about 6 times; I have emailed him also and he has not once called me back or made any attempt to let me know what is going on.

I am posting this here to find out if there are others who may have experienced the same thing with this guy, and also as a warning to those who may be thinking of sending a faulty unit to him.

I have no interest in slandering anybody, but this has now gone too far. I am very concerned that my unit has been stripped to mend another and he is ducking me because of this, or that he has outright sold the unit on. How am I to know?

I see on ebay now there is an AMS 1580 for sale in Burnley UK, which is where he lives, and though from the pictures this doesn't look like my unit: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AMS-1580s-ste...1QQcmdZViewItem , it is worrying that this guy is happily selling on AMS's while not having the time to return a call concerning the whereabouts of mine.

I hope it is ok posting this here. I have found Gearslutz to be nothing other than a helpful, information sharing place.

David.

how fustrating......

It might be worth sending a registered letter asking what is going on and requiring a response within 14 days before you start legal proceedings. It does seem a little odd and at best unprofessional to ignore your requests for information.

Additionally make a note of all the times you have rung/emailed him with details of the conversation. Might be usefull later.

best of luck and let us know what happens

Hi all.

If I may, there is a tech in the Los Angeles area who has done a very extensive job of learning the AMS line. Might I suggest that you drop him an email? He has been in the process of rebuilding DMX's and RMX's, as well. Totally honest and a great guy to work with. His name is David Kulka. His website is: http://www.studioelectronics.biz/

Good luck!

Just to say that I have been on the phone to the good people at AMS/Neve today and it seems that I am not the only one in this situation. They told me that there are 5 other people currently taking legal action against Howard Jones and having been on the phone to my lawyer today, there is soon to be a sixth.

Anyone with an AMS problem: please beware of Howard Jones and Kaya Music systems.

I received a pm from David Kulka http://studioelectronics.biz and he is now set up stateside AMS repair facility so you guys who still have one can get yours mended there.

We have had the same experience. We had an DMX 1580 which we sent to Howard in July, and still haven't got it back.
When we sent it up, we called several times whether he received it or not. When we finally got him on the phone he said that he would have it done in a couple of days. After that we have called and mailed him countless times. In the beginning we occasionally got him on the phone, then only his daughter, then nobody. We left messages on his work, home and mobile phone, we mailed to work, via his website, Karen of Neve called hime several times and even went to his house two times (many thanks), but no response.

If he has had a bad time the last eight months, and I'd appreciate and respect the fact that he might have been, surely you can spare a few minutes to say that you are not able to contact people for a while due to centain circumstances, without having to go into details.

Anyway, Just thought I'd share this with you and I wish everyone good luck.

Howard has fixed my AMS collection several times. He's a good guy in my opinion. However, havent been able to get hold of him for a couple of months so as you say, worth checking before sending.
