Is there any easy way to build phantom power into a pre?

I have an Ampex 351 that I'd like to have phantom power for, and on top of that, there's something the matter with the phantom power in my Yamaha PM1000 board, and I was thinkin it would be cool to rig it up so it only supplies phantom to about 4 channels at a time.

Anyway, is there a link to "everything you need to know about phantom power" or something or a phantom power or a kit? How hard is it?

I've searched around a bit but havn't found the info I'm looking for.

My good friend Rick Chinn has a phantom discussion on his website:

I still have a few Power-One open frame linear supplies (48V @ 0.5A) left from a closeout deal I came across a couple years ago. Ping me off-list in you need more info.

To add one channel of phantom to a tube mic preamp, check out this to-92 regulator:
http://www.supertex.com/pdf/datasheets/LR8.pdf

It should give you at 10-20mA and will take a b+ of up to 450V with only about 6 parts total.

You can get them at mouser.com

This is a great place for kits, including phantom power kits.

Hey guys,

Thanks so much for the info. I may either have to learn a bit more, starting with being able to read schematics, or get some of those cheapo phantom supplies, or pay someone to do this.

I've built some pads, & recapped stuff before, but this may be a little over my head.
