Dynaudio BM15A tweeter dropping out...

Hey all, for about a day now, one of my Dyn BM15A's tweeter is dropping in and out. Not completely, maybe only by 20dB, but that's enough to send a man crazy... I also noticed when it's dropped out (lasts anywhere from a milli second to a minute), if I suddenly crank the speaker up, it starts working ok again...

So here's my question: is my tweeter blown? is is something else? and before I bring it out to the electrician, maybe how much you guys think it's likely to cost me...?

THANKS!!!!!!!

I had the same problem with an old Samson speaker, it was just a loose connection inside. I think turning the speaker up just caused enough vibration to shake the connection into place.

I took the amp off, re-seated all the connections and with insulation tape, tightly wrapped the plastic connector for the tweeter which was half way down the cable (fairly far away from the amp so heat wasn't an issue).

It IS possible the voice coil on the tweeter is partially burned, and it's cutting in and out/resistance is jumping about all over the place. 95% of the time though, when a tweeter blows, it just stops working...

Thanks, I did open the speaker up and checked up the wirings, etc... but all seemed quite well in place. That's why I thought it couldn't be a loose connection, but then you're right, it does seem that this would be the problem....

Don't know your box, but the next step is a L/R tweeter swap...

It's a known issue with Dynaudio's BM series. Just crank it really loud, and give it a few minutes and it will start working again.
