how do i quote PART of someone's post?

i know i'll probably get flamed for this, but that's okay as long as the answer is hiding somewhere in a reply. i know how to quote an ENTIRE post; one simply hits the "quote" button. but i often see where people have quoted very specific sections of another post; these quotes are highlighted the same way an entire quote is. how is this done? thanks.

I just highlight the original quote, copy and paste into the reply....then highlight again and click the quote icon.
