Studer A80 Head Help Please?!?!?!!?!!??

Im looking at a Studer A80 4 track 1/2 inch. Im under the impression I can get a two track head and turn it into a 2 track 1/2 inch Master recorder by switching it out. 1) How much would this head replacement cost and how much work is it to do?? 2) Could I get a two inch head and turn into a 2 track 1 inch tape Master just as easily??
Thanks

You can turn it into 1/2" 2 track but migt sound better as is because electronics are designed for this width of heads and also if you make it stereo, you wil almost have to use it at 30ips and 15ips often sounds better.

New heads are quite expensive. I think that Otari still makes them so look at their website for contact/prices.

It is mouch more difficult to make it 1" because you have to replace all tape leads, rolers... and it might also happen that record amplifiers wouldn't be able to drrive such wide heads.
