Question Guitar from a distance

I want to feed a guitar amp through a multikabel that is about 20m long. What is the best way to do this without losing quality?
Greets and thanks,
Tim.

I'm not sure of the exact science behind this configuration, and welcome some correction or explanation, but what a friend and I have used is this: Use a good thick cable like Mogami 2549, then on the guitar side TS use one conductor for signal and one for ground leaving the shield free. On the amp side TS tie signal to tip and then tie both shield and signal/guitar ground together to the shield of the TS. Seems to work good at about 50ft but with some guitar/amp combos the capacitance can cause the cable to make noise when it is shaken hard.

Haveing at least one pedal with a buffer stage could make life easier.

A good and cheap way is to have the amp in the CR and the cab in the studio (run the speaker cable seperat from your mic lines!).

Another way (and probably the best) is to get a line driver. Some times two passiv DIs could do the job.

In MY experience, at a distance like that... a good quality wireless unit will sound better than that long a cable, no matter WHAT it is or how it's done.

There are some small nuainces with the output impedance of the PU and the input impedance of the amp interacting. Often, different lengths of cable and different types change this interaction.

If you are going into a stomp box from the guitar, then this isn't an issue. Like Nutmeg sayz - put the peddal in the control room and you should be able to drive 20m better.

The other thing you can do (which has other advantages) is to use a decent wireless system like a Sure Diversity.
