Thread Starter | How to get rid of "Plug In Power"? Trying to connect decent mic into laptop mic in. Hello! I need some help with this: I need to set up a small meeting room's Skype setup. There is a laptop and a boundary mic, Beyer MPC 66 Problem is that laptop's mic input outputs +5v between tip and shield, I understand that this is meant to power those small electricet mics? The Beyer mic is works with this 5v but the output is very low. I do have a separate 48v phantom supply and a small ART mic pre but neither of those work because the mic input from laptop feeds them that forementioned 5 volts. And last but not the least, there is no option for turning off the 5v supply on the soundcard drivers. So, any ideas how to connect these, do I need to apply some electronics to get rid of the 5v? Current wiring is: mic + -> ring, mic - -> tip, mic shield -> shield. Thanks, -Tomi

| Hi A simple capacitor, say 100uF 10 Volt or greater, in series with the tip will stop the 5 volts from messing up your alternative mics. Positive of cap goes to tip of jack, negative to the mic or preamp. Matt S |

Thread Starter | Thanks! Now I proceed to make a cable which has a cap crammed inside a connector to make this set up look nice and clean. -Tomi |
