Upgrade for Burr Brown INA 217?

What are decent opamp upgrades for the Burr Brown INA217 chips?

I've read that the THAT 1510 / 1512 is a possibility.

Are there any better alternatives?

The ssm2019 sounds slightly less peaky to me than the that1510. I actually like the ina217 but it's the least clean sounding of the 3. If you're mic amp doubles as a line amp as mine do, the ssm2019 is the best compromise, imo.

Hi
A 5534 is a different animal to the INA217 / SSm2019 and the THAT chips so will NOT work as a direct replacement.

The SSM2017/BBINA217/SSM2019/that1510 are not opamps, although they have one inside.

If you decide to play with these, many times the hi test replacements can be unstable due to unterminated inputs. Most of these designs followed original apps notes and use a simple 470~1nf cap across the inputs, pin's 3 and 2. That is not sufficiant for the 2019 and 1510. Add a pair of 470 pf NPO mono ceramic caps from pin's 2 and 3 to pin 5 = ground to solve that problem. Match them for best CMRR performance.

Just wondering if there's anything new available on the market as a drop in replacement for the INA217?

Hi
Have you actually TESTED the existing circuit using the 217 and PROVEN that it is performing to the BURR BROWN specifications and that any 'compromise' is not down to laziness of the gear designer?
Many of these 'chips' are used in ways that are 'beyond' their limits, such as using them to drive insert points directly whereas their specs call for minimal capacitance load on their outputs and they have a load resistance capability that is also restricted. Their margins of stability may well be eroded if being called on to produce varying amounts of gain with possibly varying output loads.
Is it necessarily the 'input chip' that is actually causing any dissatisfaction?

For 8 pin DIP's, there are those 4. The SSM2017 is thankfully discontinued.

There are no more than those. There is a hybrid/discrete 1" square replacement, the Audio Upgrades PIP, or plug in preamp module.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the reply. I am considering getting the Audio Upgrades PIP for the JoeMeek OneQ and am wondering what increase in performance I would get?
