Thread Starter | Pro Tools 6.4 mix system vs Pro tools 8.0 LE digidesign 003 factory
Hello everyone, I am a newbie and this is my first post. After coming back from the studio i wanted to upgrade by Pro tools 6.4 TDM mix system. The recording sessions were made in PT 7.4 and i cannot open it in 6.4. Therefore, i was thinking about selling my 6.4 rig and buying a 003 factory, a macbook pro and PT 8.0 LE. I've heard that if i recording in PT 7.4 i can open it in PT 8.0 LE and the other way around. Also, the PT 8.0 LE comes with all of these cool plug ins that 6.4 does not support, lastly beat detective is also very nice. So what you do guys think it is a good choice or not? which is better?

I couldn't say....but if you backtrack to Gearslutz.com homepage and check out "Links - Other Gearoovy Sitez!", there are some PT board links there...and they can say. Cheers! JR |

I recently "upgraded" from a Mix 24+ to a 003 rack, Mac Pro, and PT 8le. There are positives and negatives on both sides. I'm happy with the move but there are a ton of features that I miss in le from even the oldest TDM systems. If you had a Mix rig with a ton of farm cards you might be disappointed with the dsp power of a laptop based LE system. A Mac Pro based system however will blow your mind. If you compose music in PT, lots of VI's, MIDI, yes its a good move. If you do Post audio there is good and bad. If you track more than 8 to 12 instruments at once there are a lot of advantages to the low latency of a TDM system. Your not going to get much for the Mix system on the used market so you could always keep it to track with and port your sessions to the LE system for mixing. One thing is for sure, get a good converter to hang off of the ADAT port on your 003. It makes a world of difference... |

Hi Im really new to the recording world, and im in need of some help. I have a older system i got from a buddy. the Pro Tools 6.4 with the 001 Digidesign. I have hooked everything up like the book has told me but i cant hear anything when i play. Or sing throught the mic. It could be something simple, like i said im new to all of this, and also when i hit the record button it shows on the meter that im play or talking through the mic but nothing shows up on the screen saying i recorded anything, basicly i really dont know what im doing and need some help, lol,
