Thread Starter | JH24 locate/fastwind sticks
My JH24 is "sticking" when I locate or fast wind. I’ll hit the locate and the FF/RW buttons light and the shields go down, but the tape barely moves. Then is will catch and work fine. A few times later it will do it again. If the machine is in repro or sync I hear an oscillating whine while it’s trying to more the tape. I assume this is a logic issue. I’m hoping it’s a common one and easy to fix. I’m guessing a sticky relay, but I’m just an owner/operator…not a tech. The deck hasn’t been used much lately. I turned it on Monday for a photo shoot. I found a good spot on the tape and set up a locate loop so the pictures would have good meter activity. It worked perfectly like usual. Yesterday at a session it started doing what I described. Thanks

Open the door under the transport and see if the shield is hitting that like.. piece of spring wire that drives the microswitch. The shield will trigger that switch before rewind or fast forward can happen. If jiggling that makes it go, good...you found it. The switches suck, but at least they fail in the safe mode. It's there to prevent the shields and lifters from trying to occupy the same physical plane, thereby clamping your tape in a death-grip.(ow) |
