Thread Starter | line in into mic input
Hi, I own a Tl Audio Indigo series 2001 preamp. I'd like use it as a line input preamp but it has just mic inputs (xlr), do you think I can simply use xlr balanced cables to feed it with line signal ? thanks, luca www.unguitar.com |

You will likely require a attenator pad on a mic input. My friend Rick Chinn has written this article on the topic: http://www.uneeda-audio.com/pads/ Bri |

Hi Brian, this means that the only problem could be that line source may be too strong in signal value for a mic input, right ? So, if my line source is weak, I may simply run it to the xlr balanced mic in with no other issues ? thanks luca www.unguitar.com |

In a "pro" system, line inputs are in the range of +4 dBu. Mic inputs are designed to operate typically well below that level. Certainly, you can jack a line level source into a mic level input jack, but if it's distorted, then you need a pad to correct the problem. Bri |
