| go to sham shui po(the easiest way is by MTR) and there's a street called Ap Liu Street(it's not that hard to find) that sells all kinds of electronics stuff. If u r into computer stuff, go to Golden Shopping Arcade(donno whether it's the exact name...) have fun in Hong Kong~ |

Thread Starter | thanks! looks like a good spot to start. i'm really interested in component level stuff, like leds, knobs, resistors, pots and such for circuit bending and modding but i'm always up for looking at even consumer electronics and such. are the MTA lines possible to figure out not knowing the chinese language? |

| Ap Liu Street in Sham Shui Po is packed full of stuff ... but for more esoteric bits you might have a hard time. Many shops have a second level, or entrance on the second floor. Apliu St, Sham Shui Po District, Hong Kong - Google Maps For bulk components you are better off taking the train into Shenzen (mainland China, just over the border, you will need a visa, will post a link to the area later today, mislaid it). Depends how much you need. Hong Kong is very straight forward, all signs are bi-lingual Chinese and English and everyone understands English to some degree. Taxis are dirt cheap & will not rip you off. Shop owners are exceptionally blunt and direct. Do not expect customer service, but then they won't waste your time either. In Shenzen you will get screwed so roll with it. In Sham Shui Po bargaining is possible but not to the extent as other cities in Asia. Less than 10% if you're persistent. Prices are fair up there and do not vary from shop to shop. Hit me up for a beer or if you run into any trouble, I own a small bar in Central (& the pathetic rate the studio is pulling in work I'm spending more time down there): yumla / dan@yumla.com |

| Ah circuit bending ... small volume stuff. Forget the mainland, most of what you want will be in Sham Shui Po. MTR (rail system) is very easy to use and very efficient. The Apliu Street Exit(s) is also listed on signs at Sham Shui Po MTR station. |
