TAC Scorpion question

Hi

A family member has a MkI TAC Scorpion (24-16-2) gathering dust over at his place... I've read some of the related forum posts here, and it seems that some components can be replaced to significantly improve the sound of the desk...

My question is: Does anybody here know of someone who does this kind of work in the UK - the further North the better as we're in Glasgow..?

Thanks in advance

Chris

Chris,

I am not sure if the ICs are soldered or socketed. If they are not soldered you can easily replace yourself.

Have you tried doing a search under "upgrades" etc? You will find a lot of info on which ICs to change. The main problem to lookout for is if the replacement draws more current. If the power supply can't supply the higher current then the console's audio will be degraded.

I have a Magnum which is a similar design and love the sound. Why don't you "listen" to the Scorpion before deciding to upgrade just because others say its a good thing. You may like the sound the way it is. Then you can experiment by upgrading a few channels (it may be hard to hear a difference with just one or 2 strips as the effect is usually cumulative rather than being dramatic) to see if you like the change enough to warrant a complete mod.

Change out the TL072's in the EQ with Linear Tech LT1352's. Change out the fader amp to a LT 1358.
