Why would a distortion unit stop distorting?

I have an old AC powered stomp box made by Polytone called a "Multivoicer" that used to produce this crazy distortion. I had not plugged it in for quite some time (5+ years) untill recently.

I have been wanting to use it again, so I plugged it in and all it does is pass the clean signal. No distortion.

I opened it up and did not find anything that looked wrong. No leaking caps or corosion. Any ideas how to get the distortion back?

Thanks.

Does it not come out of bypass? Or is there a change in the sound when you switch it on?

There is no change of sound when I step on the switch. Maybe it is not getting out of bypass.

Check the footswitch, and make sure you have the right power supply.

Best, Paul

Thanks Paul. I will check the footswitch, maybe spray a little deox on it. The power cable is hard wired, power supply is internal.

David,

DeOxIt won't work on a closed switch, which a lot of these pedals use. You really need to do a continuity check to make sure the legs are making and breaking properly. If it needs a switch, this is a good source Small Bear Electronics Stock List Home Page .

BTW, nothing at all came up with a Google search for that unit's name. Strange.

Best, Paul
