IN SHORT...recommend me an inexpensive, available pot or device that just attenuates the signal and can be wired inline with a mic or line signal....read on... In my setup, it seems as though when I'm tracking drums, the signal is so hot out of the mics, that I end up using my preamps to attenaute rather then boost the signal. I am thinking it may be cool to build(or buy) a rackspace unit that basically offers 4-6 XLR inputs, an "attenuate" knob (maybe a Grayhill-style) for each input, and TRS/XLR outs. The simplest and shortest signal path being the best obviously. Anybody got some quick schematics or products like this?

Look here. http://www.uneeda-audio.com/pads/ I'm in the process of building several of these pads, mostly for line-level but possibly mic pads as well. I'm building mine fixed, but I believe it's possible to make them variable as well, though it gets a whole lot more complicated for balanced signals when you do that. |
