| Capstan motor - Sewing Machine Oil? I have an Otari MX-80 and the capstan motor needs to be oiled. I have been advised that sewing machine oil is acceptable but I'm a bit skeptical. I can get the official oil from Otari but would have to buy 9 bottles to meet their minimum order. I'm willing to do that though if it's the right thing to do. Is oil selection critical in this case? |

| Get some of this Goff Professional Online Shopping > Hammond Tonewheel Generator Oil - 4oz . Very pure, and the best stuff you can buy for 'oil critical' applications. Best, Paul

| about hammond - the Hammond serviceman who used to live nearby (and revised my old L122), told me that the 'special tonewheel oil' is just the same as sewing machine oil, only more expensive. note: do not spill some oil on the capstan rubber roller !

| I turned PMs on, thanks for the heads-up. BTW, I found a post on another forum that suggested precisionmotorworks.com. They sell Otari oil by the bottle, so I'm going to give that a try. |
