HELP WITH MCI 500 SERIES CONSOLE

I am refurbishing an MCI 500 series console.....Anyone know where I can get some MCI2002 and MCI2003 ICs ..? i believe there may be alternatives for one of them, or maybe someone can point me in a direction for someone who can help??

I've used LF356's in the past for the 2001's, they come in the to-99 metal can and are relativly cheap. Just be sure the power supply is set to + - 18 volts or below.
National has made some real nice retrofits for this console. The make a LME49860 opamp in the TO-99 metal can. These run up to + - 22 volt supplies. Alternatively, you could buy some Aries TO-99/DIP converters from Digi-Key and drop in a whole bunch of opamps. The Nationals come in dips at a very good price, the cans are expensive. These are 2.7 nv noise spec parts with a -154 db distortion spec. They make a single and a dual version. You can also try BB OPA604/2604's with the aries adaptor, they spec at + - 24 volts for power supplies.

Isn't the 2002 a high voltage opamp running off the +/- 32V supply. Is there a direct replacement for that amp?

The op amp does not see that kinda voltage. If you look at the schematic each op amp has a resistor in series with each supply rail, so if you change out the amps with something that draws less current than the 2002 the voltage across the amp will be higher, and sound will be replaced with smoke...

What were used in MCI 428b/440?

I am looking potentially at a 440 which is fully loaded at 40 ch but 10 are down and need work.... so just wondering if it is worth it.

Jim the BB OPA 6604 sounds interesting.. can u mod them for the master section as well as the input channels for extra sing,depth and dimension?

Try Blevins Audio in Nashville. They are THE MCI place. The 400 series used 2001s and the 500 used 2002s. The 500 series uses +/- 36 volt power so you may have a hard time finding a "modern" replacement at that voltage. For a while folks were modifying these boards swapping out the 2002s for a 5534 in a single-ended fashion at +36 volts. Call Steve Sadler or Randy at Blevins, they should be able to hook you up. Also you might want to subscribe to Steve's support "network", it's well worth the price, call him and he can give the details.

Hi there,

The MCI 600 series also used those chips and I think you will find that they are cherry-picked 5534 and 5532. You can't go wrong anyway since the rail voltages are +/- 18 (on the 600 they are). I also replaced some of them with 2904s and got a better sound to my ears.

the JH600 series console did not use the 2001, 2002, or 2003 op-amp.
All IC chip based. 5534 type.
