Thread Starter | Is it possible for a CD player outputs to null?
I just re-hooked up my gear from being in another room. After wiring up my mains I put in a CD to give it a listen. It sounds a bit off. I go to check mono and it's gone! All I hear is a bit of hit-hat and snare at whisper volume. I mute the left, all I hear is the right channel. I mute the right, all I hear is the left. What in the hell could be going on? I'll give the signal flow: Denon Balanced outs to a Coleman switcher. Coleman outs to a pair of three way split cables. Left channel from the Coleman to Amp#1 feeding the tweeter and mid-range driver and to Amp #3's left channel feeding the bass driver. Right channel from the Coleman to Amp #2 feeding the tweeter and mid-range driver and to Amp #3's right channel. I am stumped and I doubt the mono switch on the Coleman went bad. Totally stumped.

Something is out of polarity between the CD abd the monitors. Check your connections. Possibly as simple as a TRS plug not in all the way. Change out all the cabling and see what changes. Apparently you cannot hear the out or polarity in stereo. It brings tears to my eyes to listen to out of polarity sound. Out of polarity = cancellation in mono - one good reason to check all work in mono before sending it out. Check your wiring and let us know! L |

| Oh come on. I love the feeling of my head being crushed and pulled apart at the same time. Sometimes I wire my mains out of phase just for fun.... -tINY |

I thought the low end sounded weird as hell but I also didn't have them up on stands or spaced correctly. It must be the amp to speaker connections then. I checked everything else. Thanks guys. |

Thread Starter | The connections were fine. I had the Coleman on a different power strip so the mono and headphone functions didn't work. It's fine. I just have to get use to this room.

| Try encoding it into mid/side and then listen just to the side component while rocking back and forth. I sometimes fall off the chair. It's awesome. thumbsup
