fabric wire jacket? So I've decided to replace all the wiring in this old J-Bass I have, I ordered the kit from guitarpartsresource.com, (http://www.guitarpartsresource.com/WKJVNT.JPG) the wire covering is this weird fabric and I can't seem to figure out how to strip it without totally destroying the wire. Has anybody worked with this?

| If it's that hard to work with you can use regular wire, mabee with a wrapped wire shield. Or mabee just replace the components and use the original wire. I think they probably use cloth wrapped for the 'vintage' vibe. It's certainly not an upgrade. Drop them a line, and see what they say. Otherwise cloth can be burned off with a regular propane torch. Best, Paul

The wire strippers with multiple gauge marks for stripping usually work pretty good on the old style cloth-insulated wire.

Be careful not to nick the wire if you can. If it's old wire that's being used, it gets brittle over time. A nick weakens that point.

Simple, you don't strip it. You just push the fabric back.

If you want to pick up noise, use it. If not, use quality shielded cable like the Mogami hi def console wire. Use adhesive backed copper foil tape to line the cavity behind and around the pickups and the control cavity. Jim Williams Audio Upgrades
