DIY clones

one friend is offering me a DIY pultec eq and ssl compressor clones.

now how many sluts are really using DIY gear and what are experiances ?

do those units malfunction more than regular new units or original second hand units ?

depends on who makes them, with what components.
I've seen some really really beautiful work. which sounds the business too.
the issue is the manhours that go into building it, not the quality.

I 've some "clones", that I have never had problems with( sound good also). Then I have some commercial gear that works less, than it works!.. ..As stated, depends on who makes the gear ( both DIY and commercial)....

If it's build well then it should be fine. I think that everyone should have to have ONE piece of gear that they've built sitting around.

Actually the understanding in Prodigy pro and other DIY sites is that you will not sell the units you're building since it is DIY,Helping somebody build a pre or compressor is something else.
